Toronto's Best Hybrid Coffee Shops & Cafés

Who doesn’t love a good coffee shop? What if your coffee shop… was also something else? Well, there are some hybrid cafés in Toronto that deliver on both fronts, without sacrificing the quality of their roasts. For the multitaksers in all of us, this is for you!

1. May Flowers

Flowers, coffee…? Sounds good to me! Especially when said coffee shop sometimes uses flowers or floral syrups in their drinks! Case in point, the lavender latte pictured here.

May Flowers, on top of making pleasant and smooth cups of coffee in their St. Clair West store, also sell beautiful and well-tended flowers and plants. It always smells incredible inside of the store, and the salespeople are very kind and knowledgeable.

The speciality shop also delivers bouquets for events, and I was once on the lucky receiving end! Although I wasn’t home when they arrived, they were very good at contacting me and making sure the flowers were in a safe place for when I arrived. I really appreciated this service, and it proved to me their commitment to customer service.

This is one worth stopping by!

They also sell handmade birthday cards that are hilarious - I’ve bought two already.

2. Dismount

Have your own Tour de Coffee in this bike-and-coffee shop located on St. Clair West.

It’s easier than climbing the Col du Tourmalet to order a delicious espresso or latte from this cycling store with talkative baristas. I personally am always impressed by the quality of their coffee. Their cappuccinos are the exact amount of creaminess that I enjoy.

The ambiance of the store is also worth mentioning as it is frankly cool to be surrounded by a number of bikes as you sip your drink. There are also snacks available if you want a bite.

Even if you don’t have any knowledge on cycling, pop in as the coffee and the ambiance are fun!

3. Creeds Coffee Bar

There is no need to fear dropping any coffee or gluten free scone onto your outfit at Creeds Coffee Bar, as they have a laundromat located inside their café.

Creeds aim was to create a stimulating environment for its patrons. There is wood furnishing, plants, modern art, and comfortable chairs all around.

Creeds offers a number of tasty nibbles for its customers, and they usually have an option for gluten free and vegetarian individuals.

4. Black Canary

Comics and coffee - seems like a stellar pairing to me!

Black Canary goes above and beyond with its “comics” theme in its adjoining café, offering themed drinks, and having eclectic comic book paraphernalia. Grab a themed latte (I personally love the Northstar (maple latte), and The Black Widow (a raspberry mocha), and have a very relaxing stay.

The walls are beaming with posters, art, and maps (look at that Middle Earth) which make it an enjoyable atmosphere, even for non comic book fans.

As for food options, there are a few small snacks available on which to nibble. They’ve always had a gluten free cookie whenever I’ve visited.

In all, this is a cool café to check out that always has fun decor and delicious drinks.
