Top 10 Paris Coffee Shops in Rive Droite (North of the Seine)

Rive Droite isn’t only jam-packed with tourist attractions - it’s also jam-packed with a slew of fantastic coffee shops for any and every type of caffeine drinker!

If it’s the environment you’re craving over the blend, or vice versa, there are definitely places that’ll be right for you! Keep reading for my top picks North of the Seine.

1. Ten Belles

Feel like the Belle of the café cultured-Ball when you step into this coffee shop near Canal Saint-Martin.

Ten Belles is known as one of the best places in which to grab a caffeinated beverage in Paris, and it certainly delivered each time I visited. Their coffees are balanced, and are very pleasant to drink (not much of a bitter aftertaste!).

The café is small, but very charming. There is a good amount of seating thanks to an excellent use of the space. The patio and the loft are excellent additions.

As for the food, I unfortunately cannot comment as I’ve never managed to get any gluten-free treats when I’ve visited, but the baristas have told me they do sell them on occasion.

If you’re not too keen to treats/ you don't mind grabbing something else at a nearby patisserie or boulangerie, then Ten Belles is definitely a wonderful place to check out for coffee aficionados!

There is a loft-style supper seating level that is very relaxing.

2. Fringe Coffee

Fringe delivers heavily on the “cool” factor of a café - it beautifully couples the elements of “caffeine” and “photography”.

Feel immensely cool as you sip a cold brew while perusing a photography book or gazing at the blown-up photos lining the walls.

The baked treats, while simple and limited, caters to a variety of diets. Gluten-Free/ Vegetarian individuals can rest assured while they’re here. There are breakfast and brunch options for those that are interested!

The real draw for me to this café was the environment and the ambiance. I felt like being creative amongst all the art, and I really liked the use of colour and texture with the art in the café. The barista was also quite jovial, and in a chatty mood. Love that!

3. Café Oberkampf/ Café Méricourt

Nestled in the 11ème arrondissement, sister coffee shops Café Oberkampf and Café Méricourt are trendy oasis’ that make buttery cups of coffee.

Both cafés also cater to Gluten-Free / Vegan / Vegetarian individuals, with a slew of desserts and healthy breakfast / brunch options. The food is hearty, fresh, and well presented. Personally, I prefer Oberkampf for their treats, and Méricourt for their brunches, but both still deliver high-quality food in general.

As for the ambiance, Café Oberkampf, being a very small café that’s tucked away, is more well-suited to going alone or with a close friend. Its a great spot for a date, in my opinion. I also want to mention that Oberkampf makes one of my favourite café cakes in Paris

Another point worth mentioning for anyone who is celiac: Café Oberkampf is only a hop-and-a-skip away from nearby celiac-friendly bakery Chambelland.

Café Méricourt is definitely more trendy, and it’s hard to not feel like you’ve walked onto the set of a “cool” millennial movie with the green walls and plenty of greenery all around the space. I’d recommend this more if you’re with a bigger group of friends, or with a date you don’t know very well yet.

All in all, you can’t go wrong picking etierh café when you’re in the 11th district. Both have different strengths, but it all depends on what you want from your coffee shop visit!

4. Motors Coffee

I found Motors Coffee one day while strolling along Rue de Rivoli, and noticed a sign saying “Emily Ratajkowski and Batman drink this coffee”. I was intrigued. When I looked at the menu posted outside the door, the first thing that sold me was “caramel latte with popcorn”. Needless to say, I had to try it. It was a compulsion. And it was a beautiful, tasty, sweet, buttery, and fabulous compulsion.

The atmopshere of the café was also really nice, and I quite liked the “rock-and-roll” touches about. I feel like if Bat Out of Hell The Musical became a trendy café, this would be it.

Oh, and their single bathroom stall’s door promised boobs inside. I, an owner of aforementioned breasts, was indeed inside, so they weren’t wrong.

5. Marcelle

After a day of browsing the shops along Rue de Rivoli or in Forum des Halles, stop by Marcelle for a healthy and filling snack or meal (think granola, açai bowls, ricotta and avocado toast) and a nice cup of coffee with their own housemade almond milk.

Another huge bonus of this café is their interior; located on multiple floors, it isn’t difficult to find a secluded spot for you to go and read a book, or spend a few moments chatting with your friends.

The other great thing about this café is the amount of attention paid to those with dietary restrictions; options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten free individuals exist (and taste very good)!

The next time you’re out shopping near Châtelet Les Halles, Marcelle might be the place to drop by.

6. Ob-La-Di

You’ll be singing Ob-la-di. Ob-la-da the moment you step into this eclectic and trendy café in the 3rd arrondissement.

Although the space itself is small, Ob-La-Di makes some of my favourite café breakfasts and brunches in all of Paris. The food is fresh, hearty, and looks very Instagram-friendly. One of my top picks is the granola (pictured below) that happens to be gluten-free. It definitely fuelled me enough to take a long walk through La Petite Ceinture later that day!

I find their playlists are also particularly good, but I suppose that comes with the territory when your café is named after a famous song.

When it comes to baked goods, Ob-La-Di also makes their own Gluten-Free/ Vegetarian/ Vegan cakes and cookies that look positively ravishing. How does a vegan “snickers” or blood orange and pomegranate cake sound? Good? I thought so.

When you find yourself strolling through the third, allow your feet to drag you to Ob-La-Di, and you’ll be singing in no time!

I love the floor in Ob-La-Di… it definitely makes you feel as happy and in the mood to hum… perhaps even the song for which the café is named!

7. KB CoffeE Roasters

KB Coffeeshop does it all - they roast, they brew, they make treats.

Montmartre doesn’t have as many “typical” coffee shops as other areas of Paris, but KB Coffee Roasters does its best to rectify that.

Located on a corner, KB has plenty of outdoor seating for those who prefer having their drink al fresco. Considering it’s in Montmartre, I recommend drinking outside as it’s very fun to people watch as you sip away. The café itself is usually bustling, but the service tends to be fairly quick.

As for the food, there are options available for those who are Vegetarian/ Gluten Free.

KB takes it’s coffee seriously, and if you’re looking for a good spot in which to grab an espresso or a latte near Sacré-Cœur, pop here and enjoy!

8. La Caféotèque

With a name like « La Caféotèque », it’s not surprising how seriously this café takes its coffee.

This spot boasts multiple different types of coffee from various regions of the world. Each day, they change up the roast offered, which keeps things fresh for the customers. The ambiance of the café itself is relaxed, and the space itself is immensely cool. I really like the “jungle room”!

There are a variety of food bites offered, and they usually have options for Vegetarian/ Gluten Free diets. However, I was once told by a waiter that they were discontinuing some of their gluten-free offerings, so I am unsure how many are available now.

The coffee shop also has a school in which you can become a trained barista (multiple levels available).

If you’r looking to take a piece of La Caféotèque home with you, they have their own roasted beans available for sale.

N.B. I would just like to mention that I have visited this café around 20-25 times. My first visits were always enjoyable and enticed me to return. However, my last three visits were particularly unpleasant in terms of the service. The waiters on those three occasions were incredibly rude and made my stay uncomfortable. I really hope this was simply a short-lived issue that is no longer the case, as the café does have great coffee!

9. Neighbours

I stumbled upon Neighbours one night while walking in the 3rd arrondissement, and I was tempted to come back when I saw the offerings on their menu!

This café, founded by two Australians, has fantastic food that is fresh, innovative, and healthy. Think sourdough focaccia topped with smoked salmon, a poached egg, and tarragon mushrooms, or toasted sourdough crumpets with pumpkin seed butter.

Although the café is small, it is pleasantly decorated, and it has a very quaint and cozy ambiance.

I wouldn’t recommend this café for studying, but I would definitely suggest it to anyone who enjoys a quiet place in which to read a book, or perhaps take a good friend/ a date for an intimate chat.

The word “neighbours” often conjures up thoughts of someone with whom you are close, and I definitely felt welcome in this café. Try it out, and enjoy the vibe!

Noteworthy Feature:
Neighbours was originally founded by two Aussies - this café is a great alternative from the typical Parisian coffee shops! As the owners are Australian, you can almost be guaranteed a decent cup of coffee.

10. RéPublique of Coffee

Do the words “Mexican-styled café” and “vaporwave aeshetic” intrigue you? While the café doesn’t self-identify in this way, that was the consensus that me and three friends came to the moment we walked into this fabulous little spot in the 10ème arrondissement.

Up-to-date on the latest café fads (i.e. charcoal lattes) and an ever-changing menu of healthy Mexican fare and brunch options (i.e. avocado toast, bean dishes, etc…), this café packs a serious punch in both the food and drinks department.

For 23 euros, you can have yourself a hearty lunch full of fresh ingredients. There are options for Vegans/ Vegetarians/ Gluten Free.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have any gluten free cakes available the last time I went, but they usually have quite a satisfying selection for gluten sensitive individuals.

If you’re looking for a hip place to go to with friends that is very instagrammable, République of Coffee could be just the place for you. Put away the phone, and either pull out a book or chat away, and you're sure to have a good time.
