Le Peche Mignon (Coffee Shop and Cafe Reviews - LONDON)

Although I almost missed it due to the construction and scaffolding around it at the time, I am thrilled I managed to find Le Péché Mignon, a definite gem of Holloway Road in London!

Located on 6 Ronalds Road - Highbury, this is an independently owned French café that also sells some lovely European delights and fine foods, such as sardines, cheeses, charcuterie, wines, pastas, and my personal favourite - yogurts from La Fermière.

Not your typical London café, this particular haunt has actual francophone waiters who will happily take your order in French. This made me feel extremely comfortable and right at home! Not to worry if you’re not fluent in the language of love: they are all very well versed in English, as well!

Do take the time to pop by if you’re in the area, and don’t forget to leave with a lovely cheese or bottle of olive oil in tow!

A splendid croissant (or so I was told as it wasn’t gluten free) along with a fantastic flat white.

The Coffee

Absolutely fantastique, probably one of the best coffees I had in London (probably because it tasted French to me, haha!)

I came back here time and time again, with good reason. I adore the black cups with the white trim - very classy! There is also something to be said about the art; I admire their creativity with different designs!

The Food

While most of the food is not created with those unable to breakdown gluten in mind, the café does make an effort to have some options on hand, such as their polenta cake and salads. There are also packaged foods and goods such as their oils, sardines, cheeses or charcuterie selection that are gluten friendly.

Overall, this café-cum-fine-foods store definitely takes pride in its food options.

All of my friends who have gone and who are able to tolerate gluten have assured me that their viennoiseries are indeed as tasty as they look. Unlike in some other cafés that only offer pre-made nibbles, you are able to order a cooked breakfast from their menu (think croque monsieur, eggs, or toasted sandwiches). They’ve even got separate food that comes out around lunchtime - wow! Talk about variety!

(Above) A moist and hefty slice of polenta cake. A great gluten free option that complemented the cappuccino perfectly!

(Left) In a clockwise order: A cappuccino, La Fermière myrtille yogurt, and a flat white.

The big communal table is a great spot to read your newspaper while hobnobbing with those around you.
