Lush Spa Review - Is it worth it?

Let’s face it - life hurts.

No, I don’t mean that in an incredibly dark and macabre manner. I mean it quite literally.

Driving, working, texting, working out, playing with dogs, not skipping leg day, using our computers… it can all lead to increased discomfort in our bodies. Sometimes, we are due for a bit of a tune-up.

Usually I get basic massages done at my physiotherapists office. I go in, I go out. There’s no aromatherapy, cleansing oils, music… It’s basically the massage equivalent of ordering plain popcorn at the movies. No butter. No salt. No drink. No candy. Just a bag of plain popcorn.

Well… what if I wanted the combo? A massage that wasn’t just physical, but an entire experience?

Reading all of this, you can imagine my delight at finding out that Lush offered their own massages as part of their spa packages! Complete with its own soundtrack, massage bars, scents, products, sitting rooms, and a consultation before hand, these packages offer a lot more than just physical relief.

The person with whom I booked a spa package (we both desperately needed some kinks to be cranked out of our backs and souls) suggested we try “Tailor Made”. We both quite liked the idea of having our first Lush Spa experience be personalized to our needs.

The experience begins the moment you walk in. Chipper and chatty employees lead us to a lovely display of flowers with four different massage bars to smell. While sipping on some water, we are then escorted into the actual “spa” area. It should be noted that this room is “separate” from the shop itself, and can only be entered if you book a spa package (no teenager trying to buy their mum a birthday gift will walk on you in your robe, I promise!).

Next, we have a consultation in which we pick all the products we want to have used on our bodies. I opted for “Wiccy Magic Muscles” (it claims it helps achy bodies), and Joel chose “Hottie” (it’s for “seriously sore muscles”).

We also are given a choice of bath bombs, which baffled me a tad as I couldn’t quite imagine what they might be used for (there wasn’t a bathtub in sight). However, they were definitely put to good use, but I’ll keep their function a delightful surprise for anyone who chooses to get a Tailor Made massage!

After changing into our robes, we were led into our treatment room and… what can I say. It was euphoric.

In the interest of not spoiling the entire experience, all I shall say is that the Tailor Made package was a sensorial mix of massage, scents, temperatures, creams, and music (it was the first time I’ve heard lyrics in a song played during a massage).

Pardon the quality of this photo - I wasn’t in my right mind as I was experiencing some particularly potent post-spa bliss.

The two lovely ladies who gave Joel and I are massages brought us out after the treatment to a sitting room (pictured below) that was made to resemble an “English cabin”. I must give credit to Lush - the design of the spa was fantastic! Our task of cozying in was certainly helped by the rum-and-tea concoction we were offered us. It was both a surprising and surprisingly pleasant drink.

There were two other people in the sitting room when we went out who had different treatments, and both were raving about the experience.

We were allowed to sit and wind-down as long as we wanted, and before we left, we were given two new massage bars to take home! I was at fault for making the tube smell of peppermint and other essential oils on my way home, but it was definitely worth it! I felt quite nimble afterwards.

Overall, it was a scent-sational experience, and one I’d definitely recommend it - especially to Lushies! - if you find yourself near a Lush Spa.

I’m hoping to try another one of their spa packages soon. I’ve got my eye on Synaesthesia… they used the word “bespoke” and “metaphoric” in it’s description - I’m sold!

The Lush Spa I went to was at the Oxford Street location (175-179 Oxford St, Soho, London W1D 2JS, UK), but other locations can be found in Bath, Cardiff, or via a quick google search to see if there’s one in your area!
