Top 3 Best Alberta Coffee Roasters (Canadian Coffee Roastery)

Cowtown has its fair share of quality coffee!

Although Alberta is best known for its picturesque landscapes, bold blue lakes, and the Stampede, its coffee game should also be taken into account! I discovered many coffee shops and roastery’s when I last visited Alberta and Calgary that really stuck out to me, but there were three in particular that were standout. Read on to discover which Alberta coffee beans you need to try!

The eponymous Phil & Sebastian were two lads who met in 1996 at the University of Calgary while studying to be engineers. These skills would prove to be transferable, as they both utilized their skills to create expert cups of espresso and beans later on.

Every coffee I have made from their beans (I use either a V60 drip or an Aeropress) have turned out well. I find that overall, with all the beans I’ve tried, their roasts tend to be stronger. Some even have a distinctly nutty taste.

Something that I really enjoy about Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters is that all the baristas working at their locations are knowledgable, and open to offering detailed information and suggestions when you go in to purchase coffee beans. I really like talking to baristas who are passionate about coffee, and can direct me to the best product for my own usage. This is definitely the case here!

Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters also ship their beans nationwide, so you can enjoy them from your home anywhere in Canada!

If you are in Calgary, be sure to check out their Simmons location! The exterior is pictured below, but the interior is equally as cool (and smells incredible).

Rosso Coffee Roasters meticulously choose ethically sourced beans. This roastery pays close attention to all details ensuring quality coffee.

If you’re in Calgary, you can head over to their Ramsay location, and see them roasting beans six days a week - wow!

This company ids also rejoicing, given that one of their team members, Cole, won the Canadian Barista Championship. Clearly this roastery is passionate about what they do, and know how to produce excellent baristas (and not to mention, excellent coffee beans).

With Canadian-wide shipping, it’s easy to try these quality beans from wherever you are. My favourite Rosso Coffee beans are a tie between Anonos and Santa Lucia. These are definitely beans to try!

This award-winning coffee company sources, roasts, and serves their namesake beans at three cafés in Calgary. Their 20 years of experience is evident in the quality of their beans, that never disappoint.

Their beans are a staple in many Canadian cafés, and are always a delight to sip. They also ship all across Canada, which is perfect during this self-isolating time.

I adore Ruben Dario and La Llama, and their are other brews on my radar!
