Top 10 Uptown Dessert Places in Toronto

If you’ve been reading this blog, you’ve probably come to the realization that I have a very big sweet-tooth. After much deliberation, I have come up with this list that encompasses some of my favourite dessert picks north of Bloor Street. This post is to help both Torontonian visitors and downtown-darlings alike satisfy their sugary cravings!

All the places mentioned are gluten-free friendly. None are celiac-friendly, unless otherwise stated!

1. 1675 Café & Patisserie

IMG_9270.jpeg

Although the newest spot on this list is 1675 Café & Patisserie, that doesn’t mean it’s quality is anything at which to scoff. In their words, they are “a typical high class french style pastry shop that has espresso drinks, real leave teas and most unique pastries.”

Their patisseries are indeed quite unique, and are all beautifully presented. I have enjoyed each and every dessert I’ve tried, and one of the waiters told me that they are made in-house everyday with only high-quality ingredients.

The interior of this Instagram-friendly patisserie is incredibly pretty with its mix of marble tables and baby pink velvet chairs. This café & patisserie is definitely a sure bet for a posh day-out (or night-out… most days it’s open until 11:00 p.m.)!

4750 Yonge Street

2. Unicorn Patisserie

Unicorn Patisserie cooks up patisseries as unique as the mythical animal in its name. Seemingly real “fruits” made out of white chocolate, mousse, yuzu, and other delicious ingredients make any item on this item a joy to eat.

For a truly exceptional dining experience, head on over and enjoy their fun desserts. They are a bit pricey, but if you don’t mind paying for the craftsmanship, they are worth it!

3. Montchant Café & Patisserie

A recently opened café in Toronto, Montchant definitely has a very pretty interior, and equally beautiful pastries. Although they still seem to be finding their footing (perfectly understandable as they’re under a year old), they are definitely worth checking out, and have a very lovely set of desserts and cutlery (which is also for sale if you’re interested!) If you’re a fan of macarons, they also sell some sourced from Butter Avenue!

4. MILKCOW CAFÉ

Release your inner child at this whimsical and fun soft-serve joint! The famous Korean dessert café’s Toronto establishment gives customers a chance to pick milk soft-serve based creations with an assortment of toppings. You can go for something more traditional (milk soft ice-cream topped with macarons and almonds) or be more adventurous with your choice (milk soft ice-cream topped with actual honeycomb).

Every item on the menu is not only delicious, but also Instagram-friendly. This establishment is already quite well-known throughout Asia, and it is definitely something I think is a positive addition to North America!

5. Tsujiri North York

Lovers of matcha will rejoice at Tsujiri, an originally Japanese powdered green-tea chain from Kyoto. All of the desserts here made with high-quality matcha, ensuring that each item had a rich taste. Choose from a variety of treats such as matcha soft serve (with adzuki beans and dango) or a matcha cookie puff.

Tsujiri have been in business since 1860, and have had a long time to perfect their speciality.

Whether you prefer to grab a tea or a treat, a trip to Tsujiri is totally worth it (wow… what an alliteration).

7. Cheese Garden

Cheese Garden is the place to go if you’re in the mood for traditional Japanese cakes and desserts, served in a more modern setting. They offer many varieties of matcha-flavoured sweets, as well as their own unique spin on cheesecake.

I was fortunate to visit during their “Sakura” event, and had the pleasure of sampling their Sakura Cheesecake, as well as their other sakura-flavoured goodies.

8. Ladurée

If you’re looking to find delicious and good quality Macarons in Toronto, Ladurée (albeit pricey) is a safe bet.

The Parisian macaron chain with a Torontonian residency in Yorkdale, makes some stellar macarons. The location alone makes this enterprise stand out, and well worth a visit.

As the Canadian branch of this French chain ships in all of it’s ingredients from Switzerland, it’s no wonder as to the excellence of the taste of their macarons. The design of the café itself is also a big draw, and you’ll feel incredibly posh as you nibble away on such flavours as Marie-Antoinette or Fleur d’oranger. Très chic!
