Top 3 Best Gluten Free Fried Chicken Sandwich in Toronto (Celiac Safe)

A fried chicken sandwich is a favourite treat of mine. It’s such a difficult item to make gluten free, let alone celiac safe, but here are three options in Toronto to not just satisfy, but absolutely fulfill, all of your cravings.

If you’re celiac/ gluten free/ gluten sensitive/ wheat free/ gluten curious, and want even more Gluten Free in Toronto, then check out my original Gluten Free restaurant post, my best Gluten Free Pizza post, and my Gluten Free Cakes post!

DADDY’S CHICKEN

Sometimes Daddy knows best!
(I’m so sorry for typing that)

Daddy’s Chicken is one of the most consistently standout fried chicken establishments in Toronto. What’s absolutely bonkers to me is knowing that they have the facilities to create both “normal” and entirely celiac safe “gluten free” options of their offerings.

My personal favourite item on their entire menu (yes, the entire menu) is their Hot Hot Sandwich. A spicy slaw is paired with deep fried pickles and a lime and jalapeño aioli to complement their tender, succulent, and wonderfully crispy breaded chicken thigh. Oh - and the gluten free bun doesn’t disintegrate the moment you touch it! It may not photograph the best, but it sure does taste the best.

It’s fortunate for my wallet that Daddy’s Chicken isn’t open late, because I would absolutely devour this multiple times a week at midnight if I could (that’s when I get my chicken cravings… It’s a thing).

Even if spicy isn’t your thing, Daddy’s offers a Classic Sandwich with regular slaw, chipotle mayo, and pickles, as well as a Chicken BLT, to satisfy your fried chicken cravings.

You’ll surely be saying “Daddy, more!” once you start going.
(Again, I’m so sorry for typing that. I actually have held myself back).

Gud daae sandwich shop

It’s always a good day for Gud Daae!

This entirely gluten free and nut free sandwich shop makes satisfying and hearty options out in Etobicoke. While (when I’m rarely in Toronto nowadays) I don’t find myself that far east of the city, Gud Daae is my go-to stop when I’m in the area!

My favourite of their sandwiches is the Spicy Jalapeño, which pairs a crispy chicken cutlet with - surprise - jalapeño, arugula, spicy mayo, cheese, and onions. If you’re not a fan of spice, you can check out their Brown Chicken (brown sauce, cheese and caramelized onions), or Classico (chicken and pesto). There are halal options for their chicken and beef.

Be sure to round out your order with some of their Mini Pancakes! They’re the perfect sweet treat for the end of your meal.

SCORE ON QUEEN/ KING

One of my favourite late-night spots is Score (on Queen or King).

Almost their entire menu can be made celiac-safe gluten free, including their burgers and fried chicken sandwiches.

There is only one option, but it has a nice crunch, the dill mayo is delicious, and the bun doesn’t crumble the moment you set your eyes upon it. What more could a girl ask for at 1am?

If you know me personally, you know I consider Score’s yam fries the BEST in the city. I will make an explicit trip to Score just for these fries. They’re often open until the wee hours of the morning, which is perfect for a night owl such as myself. Those fries are a perfect addition to this sandwich, and I can’t recommend this combo enough.

Definitely make a trip to Score on your next late-night outing, and just thank me the day after in the afternoon when you wake up.
