Top 10 Vegan and Gluten Free Desserts in Toronto

There’s no need to miss out on indulgences just because you follow a gluten free and vegan diet! Toronto is home to a ton of options for those particular dietary restrictions, to make sure you don’t feel restricted! Here are my favourites picks.

Best Vegan Desserts in Toronto
gluten free restaurants (toronto)
Celiac safe restaurants (toronto)

HONEY’S PREMIUM PLANT BASED ICE CREAM

Craving ice-cream? That tastes like ice cream? Without the cream?

Honey’s. You go to Honey’s Ice Cream.

This place is pure magic and parlour tricks. I have no idea how it tastes so darn good. But it does, and it’s vegan, and you have three flavours to look forward to each month. I go far too often, and I also buy too many pints.

Just try it - even non-vegans love it. Trust.

Tori’s bakeshop

Unfortunately, Tori’s Bakeshop’s main location has closed down, but this fantastic bakery still offers their goods at Kupfert & Kim, and various cafés throughout the city.

Everything is gluten free, and there are many vegan options. They even have refined sugar free options! Taste is never compromised, and these offerings are as nourishing as they are delicious.

Definitely keep Tori’s wares on your radar, and peruse their website for stockists in the city!

Favourite Dessert: Berry Flax Seed Muffin & Vanilla Donut (it’s a tie)

Location:
Kupfert & Kim (multiple locations)
Various Cafés (ex. Rooster Coffee House disappointingly not celiac safe)

tsuchi cafÉ

I admit I am perhaps a bit too obsessed with Tsuchi Café.

This Japanese plant-based bakery and café fooled two of my friends, who honestly thought they used cream or butter in their baked goods. Not true! Tsuchi’s team has just mastered vegan baking. Case in point: their tarts (which are also somehow gluten free?) are decadent, rich, and have multiple textured layers.

There are sandwiches, cookies, jarred desserts, brownies, karepan, and soups. Everything is vegan, and everything is delicious.

My only complaint about Tsuchi is that they don’t have any dine-in cutlery or plates (despite offering dine-in seating). While the plates and cutlery are recyclable, I hope this is an oversight they soon rectify.

Overall, this is a personal plant-based favourite of mine, so definitely check it out!

Favourite Dessert: Tiramisu Tart

688 College St

YOONA'S KITCHEN (CELIAC + KETO + VEGAN OPTIONS)

Are you gluten-free and keto? If so, Yoona’s Kitchen is my top pick for you!

Developed to suit the gluten-free and diabetic dietary requirements of her father, Yoona, an avid baker, makes delightful cakes and treats that still satisfy a (safe) sweet tooth.

The bakery has over 70 options of keto baked goods. All of their products are, in their words:

“Keto, Diabetic Friendly, Gluten-Free, Paleo-Inspired, and Non-GMO. They're also made with 100% natural, organic, and local ingredients whenever possible, without the use of preservatives or synthetic flavors.”

And if you’re wondering about the flavour… It’s definitely there. Yum!

bunners bakeshop

If you’re vegan and gluten-free, then you better have Bunner’s on your radar.

This entirely vegan and celiac friendly bakeshop makes some of the b best sweet treats in the city. I have no idea how it’s so good, to be honest. This place makes me believe in witchcraft.

Holiday or birthday coming up? They make fabulous cakes, and seasonal treats. Amazing!

Favourite Dessert: Josephine Louise

Location:
244 Augusta Avenue
3054 Dundas Street West

DEATH IN VENICE GELATO

DEATH IN VENICE GELATO

An acutely aesthetic interior accompanies expertly crafted gelato at this quirky Gelateria counter.

While their flavours often rotate, vegan and gluten free options are always available. If you can’t visit the brick-and-mortar shop, there are tubs of the stuff available throughout the city,

Inventive flavours and a delectable texture make this a worthwhile visit!

bloomers

I bloomin’ love Bloomers!

If you’re looking for a vegan donut, there really isn’t a better place in Toronto than here. Despite containing no animal-based ingredients, these donuts are fluffy, decadent, and deeply satisfying. They even have some gluten free donuts just to accommodate those with alternative diets.

Bloomer’s provide a regular range of donuts, and also have rotating seasonal flavours. If donuts aren’t your thing, there are cookies, cakes, and other baked goods that are sure to tempt you!

Favourite Dessert: Chocolate Donut

Location:
715 Queen St W
873 Bloor St W
Bayview Village (Food Court)

the roasted nut

The Roasted Nut, just a few steps away from Trinity Bellwoods, is an establishment I frequent often in the spring and summer.

Full Disclaimer: I’m not a big fan of nuts, but their particular nut mixes are absolutely delicious. They also have cashew and nut-based frozen desserts (ice cream-esque), banana bread, carrot cakes, ‘cheesecakes’, and stuffed medjool dates.

If you’re looking for a sweet or savoury fix that’s on the healthier side, this is the perfect place to go. I genuinely adore their ‘ice cream’, and it pairs beautifully with some stuffed dates and nuts. Try one of everything, but be warned, there’s lots of protein so you will be full.

Favourite Dessert: 6ix Mix and Stuffed Dates

Location:
768 Queen St W

MIZZICA GELATERIA & CAFE

Inside the royal blue Gelateria, is a royal welcome to your tastebuds.

Mizzica is a well-awarded gelato shop, so it should come as no surprise that they serve up great gelato. Luckily for vegans, they have refreshing vegan offerings on permanent rotation.

Choose from seasonal sorbets, and vegan gelato. You’ll be back - but come early. There’s always a line!

Favourite Dessert: Dark Chocolate

Location:
307 Queen St W
